why?

because it's obvious to me, just from looking at him, that he's depressed, so he may very well have suicidal thoughts. but he believes suicide is a mortal sin. it's possible the only thing keeping him alive is his fear of eternal damnation.

if he became a buddhist he could kill himself with a clear conscience!
