we scoop reuters

looks like i ought to tweet more. yesterday "the lookout" blog on yahoo posted this story, which begins:
A partially redacted police report detailing the initial investigation in the Feb. 26 shooting death of Trayvon Martin has surfaced.

Reuters reporter Matthew Keys first posted scanned copies of the report to his Twitter account. As the Chicago Tribune noted, the report contains details that conflict with several rumors surrounding the case.
here's a screenshot of matthew keys' tweet, also dated 3 april:

and here's a screenshot of a little bit of my facebook timeline, dated march 31:

the only problem is that the chicago tribune beat me by 4 days.

spending too much time on facebook these days:

believe it or not
birthers still exist!

on facebook last week i came across a wall post citing 3 supposed discrepancies in barack obama's birth certificate. i was able to debunk them all fairly easily, thanks to the internet.

here are the claims:

1. he is called "african-american", a term that did not yet exist in 1961.
2. his father's birthplace is given as "kenya", a country that did not exist till 1963.
3. the hospital's name was different from what is stated on the certificate.

here are the facts:

1. "african-american" does not appear anywhere on the certificate.
2. kenya was called "kenya colony" from 1920 until it became the republic of kenya.
3. the hospital's 1961 name was used from 1931 to 1971, then changed.

i'm not going to give the URLs for the sites. if you really want to look for the info, you'll see it's very easy to find.

i went back to facebook to post a comment with those facts and found that i had to be the guy's friend to comment. i had no interest in that, so i forgot about it till today, when it occurred to me that i might be able to send him a message. trouble is, when i went back i found the post was gone. somebody else must have already showed him the errors.

oh, well.

really good sports bra?

i've just discovered how entertaining my inbox can be.

you know the ads in the sidebar? the one about going back to school, with the female runner?

well, i just happened to move my mouse pointer over it, and she started to move REALLY FAST.

of course it's just a loop, so she really only takes two steps and they repeat endlessly, but the animation gives the illusion that she's running hard for as long as you want her to.

but here's what i find so fascinating (& i admit this likely says more about me than about anything else): every part of her, even her head, moves round like crazy, but her boobs don't bounce at all.

no "friends"

somebody i decided to follow on twitter sent me a direct message and asked me to add him/her as a friend on facebook.

nothing personal, but i don't do that stuff.

this was my reply:
tx. i dnt trust facebk,prefer f2f 2 "friends",meet kindrd spirits@libry,poetry reads,socrates cafe,etc,use web 4 info,ntrtainmnt,eml,ads.
had to cut a fair amount but found i can get quite a bit into 140 bytes.

used internetslang.com for some abbreviations, common sense for others. at least i hope it's common.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Ushering in the largest decrease in auto fuel consumption since the 1970s, President Barack Obama and automobile manufacturers Friday announced a deal that will save drivers money at the pump and dramatically cut heat-trapping gases coming from tailpipes.

The agreement pledges to double overall fuel economy to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025, bringing major under-the-hood changes for the nation's automobiles starting in model year 2017. Cars and trucks on the road today average 27 miles per gallon.

"This agreement on fuel standards represents the single most important step we have taken as a nation to reduce our dependence on foreign oil," Obama said, sharing the stage with top executives of the major auto makers.... [more]

The case has refocused the spotlight on the already tainted News of The World, part of Rupert Murdoch's global media empire at News Corp. It also comes as Murdoch is trying to engineer the politically sensitive, multibillion-pound takeover of broadcaster BSkyB in Britain.

[13-year-old Milly] Dowler's abduction in 2002 while walking home from school in Surrey, south of London, transfixed Britain until her decomposing body was found six months later in the woods by mushroom pickers.

But while police were pursuing all leads and Milly's parents were making dramatic appeals for any tidbit of information that could be useful, a private investigator working for the News of the World tabloid allegedly hacked into her cell phone, listened to her messages, and even deleted some to make room for possible new ones.

Mark Lewis, a lawyer representing Dowler's parents, said Tuesday the suspected hacking may have hampered the police investigation and he plans to sue the tabloid for its interference.

It was never determined how long Dowler was alive after being abducted but the tabloid's actions reportedly came right after her disappearance. Police realized some messages had been deleted, giving them and Milly's parents false hope that she was still alive.

"It is distress heaped upon tragedy to learn that the News of the World had no humanity at such a terrible time," Lewis said. "The fact that they were prepared to act in such a heinous way that could have jeopardized the police investigation and give them false hope is despicable." [more]

Fox & Friends hosted Glenn Grothman, a Republican state senator from Wisconsin, to promote Wisconsin GOP Gov.
